Focussing - 2
- Best is a Bahtinov mask - or APT software - both shown later
- If the Moon is up use that (autofocus) then switch to manual
- If Jupiter is up, focus manually until its moons can be seen in the viewfinder
- Use house lights a mile or more away
- If the lens has an infinity mark use that, but it may not be accurate
- Focus in daylight and keep the camera outdoors until dark
(but temperature shift can defocus)
- Do not simply move to the end stop of the lens -
camera makers leave a margin for thermal changes
+ May need some tape to stop the focus ring moving
That last point is important. Focus and zoom rings on some lenses can move very easily, so tape them when you have got the setting right.
